MATC Acctg Students: Earn While You Learn with the WI Department of Revenue!

Attention MATC Acctg Students:

Graduating soon with an associate degree in accounting? The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) is now accepting applications for its Audit Gateway Program, a paid opportunity that allows students to gain auditing experience while completing a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Program Highlights

  • Position: Auditor Trainee (Tax Representative 3)

  • Start date: June 15, 2026

  • Summer: Full-time (40 hrs/week) training

  • School year: Full-time or part-time (minimum 24 hrs/week)

  • Coursework: Up to 6 hours/week allowed during work time

Students will learn to audit individual income tax returns, review credit claims, and assist with audits across the department.

Tuition Assistance

  • Up to 3 years of tuition assistance

  • $5,250/year tax-free under IRC Section 127 (amounts above may be taxable)

MATC Accounting VITA 2026 Information!

Hello MATC VITA Volunteers,


Training for tax season officially begins next Tuesday! See below for important details and additional information about this year's VITA program.


Virtual and In-Person Training Sessions

You can join us virtually or in-person at MATC Oak Creek Campus Room A247 at the times listed below. Note that the same material is covered at the two training sessions each day, so no need to attend both on the same day. The training sessions will be recorded and made available to watch on-demand if you are unable to attend live.


General Volunteer Requirements

To volunteer with the MATC VITA Program, you must complete the following:

  • VITA Standards of Conduct Exam - REQUIRED FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS

  • VITA Intake/Interview & Quality Review Exam - REQUIRED FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS

  • VITA Basic Exam - to be eligible to prepare tax returns at the Basic level

OR

  • VITA Advanced Exam - to be eligible to prepare tax returns at the Advanced level


Note that if you want to prepare tax returns, you will need to pass either the Basic or Advanced Exam. You do NOT need to complete both of these exams. 


All exams are completed through the IRS Link & Learn Certification website. In completing the Basic or Advanced exam returns, you’ll utilize the VITA Practice Lab (Password - TRAINPROWEB). Links to all training materials can be found here - All Training Materials


Upon completion of these exams, you will need to sign-off on the volunteer agreement form in the IRS Link & Learn Certification site and submit it to curtisnh@matc.edu


In-Person Tax Preparation Services

We will be offering limited in-person drop-off services on Tuesdays at the MATC Oak Creek Campus. If you are able to help with in-person drop-off services, please sign up for specific shifts HERE.
