ACADEMIC ADVISING

After Admissions, an MATC Academic Advisor is one of your first contacts to help you start your academic journey to your diploma or degree. An Academic Advisor will help you determine what classes you should take first and explain more about your program of study.

ACADEMIC PATHWAY ADVISOR

After successfully completing your first semester, you will be assigned an Academic Pathway Advisor from your degree or diploma program. Your Academic Pathway Advisor will help you plan your coursework each semester until you graduate. Contact your Academic Pathway Advisor at least twice each semester.

RETENTION COACH

A Retention Coach (also called a Success Coach) will help you achieve your academic goals by helping you successfully navigate your non-academic issues and barriers. When you have concerns that interfere with your academic success, Retention Coaches are here for you. If you are placed on academic suspension or academic probation, your Retention Coach will work closely with you to help you get back on track.

Work your way up the career ladder and earn while you learn!

Many working-age adults need skills that will help get them a better-paying job. Pathways can get you started with a short-term certificate that will get you the basic skills you need. From there, you can “ladder” into the next educational level. Ultimately, you can earn a Technical Diploma, Associate Degree and even transfer to a 4-year college!

STEP 1:  Accounting Bookkeeper Trainee Certificate
Course Requirements
This certificate prepares you to enter the bookkeeping/accounting field in an entry-level capacity. Through the program’s three courses, students develop competence in financial accounting with an emphasis on accounting software, spreadsheets and databases.

STEP 2: Accounting Assistant Technical Diploma
Course Requirements
Prepare for entry-level positions in the accounting field by developing competence in financial, managerial, tax and payroll accounting. Your success in the program will be enhanced by your ability to organize complex data and being detail oriented.

STEP 3:  Accounting Associate Degree
Course Requirements
The Accounting degree program provides students with basic and specialized accounting skills - auditing, cost, taxes, governmental nonprofit, and computerized bookkeeping. Employment opportunities are excellent; graduates should expect to find positions in banking, business and industry, financial companies, utilities, and governmental nonprofit organizations. Core skills include an ability to perform arithmetic computations quickly, organize complex data and follow generally accepted accounting procedures. Accuracy is important.
